Farewell to Fr. Paul D. Seil: A Beloved Leader at UB Newman Center

Jan 16, 2025

With gratitude and heavy hearts, the Campus Ministry family bids farewell to Fr. Paul D. Seil as he concludes his time with us at the UB Newman Center.

A Buffalo native and dedicated priest for 35 years, Fr. Paul brought his warmth, humor, and pastoral care to our community during his time as Senior Parochial Vicar. Assigned to the Newman Center in June 2023 as part of the Road to Renewal, he quickly became a beloved presence among students, parishioners, and staff alike. Known for his quick wit and ability to bring laughter to any room, Fr. Paul reminded us that joy is a vital part of faith. He was a true pastor for the people, always approachable, compassionate, and ready to walk alongside anyone in need.

Fr. Paul’s incredible journey of service spans decades, from his early years as pastor of St. Lawrence Church in 1999 to his leadership roles at St. Bernadette Church in Orchard Park and Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Buffalo’s Old First Ward. Beyond parish ministry, he has faithfully served as chaplain for the Buffalo Fire Department, offering spiritual care and support to first responders. Many will also recognize him as the host of the beloved cooking show, Our Daily Bread, which aired for nearly 20 years, sharing both recipes and reflections.

Ordained in January 1989 by Bishop Edward Head, Fr. Paul’s journey to priesthood followed his service as a civil servant for the City of Buffalo. As the eldest of four children and the son of the late Gerard and Rita Seil, his dedication to faith and family has always been evident.

We are deeply grateful for Fr. Paul’s time with us, for the wisdom he shared, the laughter he inspired, and the kindness he extended to everyone he encountered. While we will miss him dearly, we send him off with our prayers and heartfelt thanks for his many years of ministry. May God bless him in the next chapter of his journey.

Thank you, Fr. Paul! You will always remain a part of our Campus Ministry family.
